Alain Cardinal has taught photography and illustration in the graphic arts department at the Collège du Vieux Montreal since 1987. He has been passionate about art since his childhood, but chose to pursue that art in the form of graphic design. For over 20 years, Alain Cardinal has been painting urban landscapes mainly depicting his birthplace, Montreal. His curved and warped cityscapes take the architecturally rigid concrete structures and make them come alive with movement. Since earth toned colors are the first noticed when gazing upon a city at a distance, Cardinal uses them to bring out the sprit of the buildings. His paintings illustrate a subconscious world, where reality and fantasy, chaos and order, come together in the landscape of a surreal metropolis. |
